# Working student Backend Engineer - Python & FastAPI (m/f/d) - Remote GER ## WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT We are the AI & Analytics Group within the "Center of Excellence", an enthusiastic interdisciplinary group of engineers, game theorists, data scientists and software engineers. You have the opportunity to support our team in the field of backend engineering for 6 months starting October 1st, 2025. * Whether you have experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django or any other framework, we know you are capable of switching to the development tools and operational platform currently in use and you can also define the next one. * You listen and understand the problem well, ask the right questions, make proposals and think about tests. * Once the plan is sufficiently clear to start, you can implement it with confidence, achieving both high velocity and quality through testing. * Your way of working involves never forgetting to inspect and adapt, while also challenging what is currently in place or has just been created. ## WHAT YOU OFFER * currently enrolled in a university program related to Software Engineering, Software Development, Computer Science or a similar field * experience and passion for Python and modern backend frameworks, especially FastAPI and their core principles, including asynchronous programming, dependency injection, and data validation with Pydantic (experience with SQLAlchemy, Alembic, or Celery is a plus) * ability to design and implement clean, maintainable, and scalable backend architectures, following layered or service-oriented principles, and applying best practices in code organization, dependency management, and testability * good understanding of REST API design and the implementation of APIs in FastAPI, experience with databases such as PostgreSQL is a plus * fluent communication skills in English, German is a plus ## WHAT WE OFFER * You will get involved in challenging fields of activity and have the opportunity to work on exciting projects in an interdisciplinary environment * Depending on the location of the respective group company you will get to know BASF and participate in various workshops and guided tours * In this way you will make numerous interesting experiences and get a deep insight into the world´s leading chemical company * You may have the opportunity to extend your working student contract, pursue a thesis, or transition into a full-time position, contingent upon mutual interest ## Diversity is our greatest strength!
