# Tenure-Track Professorship in German as a Foreign language
## The position
The successful candidate is an outstanding researcher with an excellent reputation in the field of German as a foreign and second language, a focus on didactic and methodological aspects, and a specialization on teaching GFL at schools worldwide. Expected criteria are empirical research on GFL classrooms in European and non-European contexts. Desirable criteria are experience in both GFL teaching and GFL professional development.
We are looking for a committed academic teacher who can teach a wide range of topics in the field of GFL didactics/methodology and is willing to serve as advisor at the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels.
The tenure track position is based at the Department of German Studies and is therefore involved not only in research at the department but also in German Studies teaching, with a focus on teacher training and in the area of language education. Successful candidates will be part of the team that supervises and develops the Master’s degree programme ‘German as a Foreign and Second Language’ and are therefore also involved in the supervision of master’s theses and the development of young academics in this field. In research, they will cooperate with ongoing projects both at the department and at the Centre for Teacher Education, to develop a visible focus in the field of German as a foreign language.
This focus facilitates cooperation with a wide range of language acquisition research at the University of Vienna, especially psycholinguistic research as conducted in the language acquisition laboratory Babelfish, but also including renowned language acquisition research in other philologies, especially in English and American Studies, Romance Studies, and Slavonic Studies.

We expect the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor's programmes and for participation in university committees.
