# Tenure-Track Professorship in Freshwater Animal Ecology
## The position
Freshwater ecosystems are hot spots of biodiversity. Intact freshwater ecosystems have an invaluable quality for human welfare. Today these ecosystems are exposed to dramatic dynamics and pressures such as weather extremes (floods and droughts, heat waves), pollution from increasing diffusive sources (agriculture, wastewater discharge, atmosphere) and the invasion of exotic species. With great value as bioindicators, freshwater invertebrates are target organisms of choice to study the response of freshwater ecosystems in the Anthropocene and to develop future conservation and management options. The University of Vienna seeks to fill a Tenure Track position in the field of Freshwater Animal Ecology. The successful candidate should have an excellent track record and expertise in freshwater invertebrate ecology. The candidate shall be familiar with classic morphological as well as modern molecular tools in taxonomy. Strong commitment to be actively involved in teaching at all levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD) is expected.
The TT position is embedded in an active and stimulating research environment at the University of Vienna. Located in the Department of Functional & Evolutionary Ecology, the new position will contribute to our research and teaching in the fields of aquatic ecology, with emphasis on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, targeting effects of global and climate change. University-intern structures and programs, such as the Vienna Doctoral School of Ecology & Evolution (VDSEE), the Environment and Climate Research Hub as well as research platforms support the qualitative education of students as well as scientific collaboration with colleagues at the University of Vienna in an interdisciplinary manner.
