Software-Design and Development # Senior Linux Maintainer / Senior Software Engineer (f/m/d) for Garden Linux **What you'll do** SAP aims to develop an Open Reference Architecture (ORA) for a secure and sustainable cloud edge infrastructure that includes intelligent optimization methods for data transparency and security. This reference infrastructure, inspired by the EU IPCEI-CIS (Important Project of Common European Interest – Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services) program, shall be the basis for future software development and a prerequisite for a pan-European cloud edge infrastructure. SAP will be working on the publicly funded project with both experienced employees from its existing workforce but also new hires. Therefore, we are looking for suitable candidates. As (Senior) Linux Maintainer / (Senior) Software Engineer (f/m/d) in the team, you will be part of the engineering team and working on lots of thrilling tasks across the full stack. The focus of the role is on helping users with technical problems, but additionally you will contribute to our quality and operations activities. In this role, there may be an opportunity to take on the responsibilities associated with an architect role in the future. In more detail, you will: * Maintain Garden Linux by building new features or addressing issues * Maintain Linux packages (review changes, publish fixes, engage & contribute up-stream) * Develop new features to enhance Garden Linux capabilities * Represent Garden Linux in SAP events and open-source community meetups **What you bring** * Broad Experience working with Linux-based systems * In depth knowledge about and experience working with the Linux Kernel, Linux containers and virtualization * Experience with cloud native development, cloud computing, distributed systems and container management technologies such as Kubernetes * Knowledge of infrastructure and experience in operating hyperscaler based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) * Comfortable with Continuous Integration systems (GitHub Actions) * Proficient programming skills in languages such as C, Bash, Python * Strong problem-solving skills and empathy for the customer * Willingness to develop skills and work in the direction of quality and operations (e.g., development & execution of tests, reproducing issues...) * Fluency both written and spoken in English as well as German * Experience with Infrastructure as Code workflows such as Terraform is a plus **Meet your team** The Gardener team is a dynamic group of professionals passionate about cloud technology and open-source software.
