# Scientist Synthetic Biology (m/f/d)
**Penzberg** | **Full time**
### The Position
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
Our vision is to create novel and highly differentiated medicines. To this end, we discover and develop novel therapeutic antibodies and next generation biologics, such as bispecific antibodies, fusion proteins or AAV vectors for gene therapy. Our ambition is to deliver such novel molecules to patients with game changing clinical benefit.
In this challenging environment, we are looking for a Scientist in Synthetic Biology (m/f/d) with a keen interest in the fields of rAAV gene therapies. You will join the department of Cell Technologies, which belongs to a unit called Large Molecule Research within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED).
**Job mission**
Your work will focus on development and application of synthetic biology tools to improve current and future rAAV gene therapies. You have a strong background in the generation and utilization of genetically barcoded libraries (e.g. massive parallel reporter assays (MPRAs) or CRISPR screens) to run design-build-test-learn cycles for engineering & optimization of genetic elements.
**Your impact**
* DESIGN & BUILD: You will design, clone, and characterize DNA barcoded libraries for various cutting-edge high-throughput screens
* TEST: You are an expert in preparation of sequencing ready NGS libraries and apply your skills to faithfully execute current protocols as well as establish new methods
* LEARN: Preferably you are experienced in either Bash, R or Python to analyze and consolidate the generated data sets
**Your profile**
You thrive in and are dedicated to establishing a culture of mutual support, cross-training, continuous learning and self-organization to meet project and functional goals. Furthermore, you know how to prioritize, how to create clarity and focus. Besides, you have the following education and experience:
* A deep understanding of cutting-edge technologies for generation & screening of genetically barcoded libraries is necessary for this position. Ideally in the context of rAAV gene therapies.
* A University degree in biotechnology, synthetic biology or similar area with PhD helps you to fulfill those tasks
* A strong background in molecular biology (e.g. plasmid design, cloning and production of complex DNA libraries) as well as in NGS library preparations is required. Additional experience in FACS-sorting and cell culture are optional.
* Ideally, you have computational experience in analysing and handling various NGS datasets
* We can trust in your project management skills as well as in your precise and reliable execution of experiments
* Fluent English language skills are natural to you
Unwavering focus, collaborative teamwork and exceptional delivery are key behaviors that drive our mission of doing now what patients need next. Together, we can be transformative.
This position is temporary for two years.
Your final Scientific Career Ladder (SCL)-Title will be evaluated according to your individual scientific experience. The latter also determines a possible employment under the collective agreement for academically educated employees.
