# Scientist 6G MAC Standardization
**Future. Discover. Together.**
Innovations for the digital society of tomorrow are the focus of research and development work at the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, HHI. The Department of Wireless Communications and Networks is recruiting research engineers in the area of wireless system design for 6G. The Group Technologies and Standards focuses on early investigation of emerging wireless technology components and their impact on standardization. Become a part of our team and join us on our journey of research and innovation!
**What you will do**
Your tasks will include the design and development of wireless communication systems and protocols. Your work includes analysis of standard contributions, observation of technology trends, identification of improvements, and development of technical solutions matching to the scope of 3GPP. You will attend standardization meetings and present related proposals in the 3GPP working groups of RAN.
The areas of interest can include mobility enhancements, extended sensing and reporting, streamlining of network functions and interactions, interfaces and protocols, interoperation between various access technologies including fixed wireless access and WiFi access, and seamless interworking across RATs.
Further topics of relevance can include
* XR/immersive communication and AI-based services
* Operation in new frequency ranges discussed for 6G and related protocol signaling aspects
* Cell-free design for distributed MIMO systems
* Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC)
* Ubiquitos coverage integrating terrestrial networks (TN) and non-terrestrial networks (NTN)
* Support of IoT devices across generations including IIoT and A-IoT
The scientific work offers the possibility of a doctorate.
**What you bring to the table**
* Bachelors, Masters, or a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field
* > 1 years of related experience or equivalent experience in wireless communications
* > 1 years of experience working with 5G or 6G wireless
* Strong background in wireless communication with emphasis on medium access layer protocols (MAC), machine learning and LTE/5G procedures
* Excellent analytical understanding and research skills
* Creative thinking and interest in new technologies
* Self-motivated, proactive, you feel competent and confident in international environments
* Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
**Preferred qualifications:**
* > 2 years of wireless standardization experience in 3GPP, e.g., RAN1 or RAN2
* Experience in digital signal processing in wireless communication systems
* Experience with technologies in vertical industries
**What you can expect**
* Fascinating challenges in a scientific and entrepreneurial setting
* Attractive salary package according to TvöD with 30 vacation days, pension scheme (VBL), wealth creation benefits (VWL)
