Research Associate (all genders) - Web Technologies Audio & Multimedia at Fraunhofer-Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen IIS
Welcome to the **Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS**, headquartered in Erlangen! As the largest institute within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, we have been conducting research for over 30 years in diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, microelectronics, sensor systems, data acquisition, signal processing, and signal transmission. Talented individuals from various engineering and natural science disciplines will find a wide range of exciting research topics under one roof. A few highlights that reflect our innovative strength include neuromorphic computing, 5G/6G mobile communication technologies, generative AI in speech and signal processing, and X-ray imaging for e-mobility. In the **Audio and Media Technologies** **division**, we’ve been shaping global standards and technologies in the audio and film industry for over 30 years. From the invention of MP3 to the co-development of AAC and the Digital Cinema Initiative test plan, the technologies we develop in Erlangen can be found in nearly every piece of modern entertainment electronics.
* In close collaboration with our audio and multimedia experts, you will help make our CODECs accessible over the web by developing new interfaces, which may also be standardized.
* You will integrate our technologies into existing software and frameworks (e.g., current browsers).
* You will also be responsible for setting up and maintaining internal cloud-based solutions.
* Finally, you’ll contribute your ideas to standardization efforts to ensure the best possible experience for end users.
* A completed degree or doctorate in computer science, electrical engineering, or a comparable field
* Strong knowledge of web technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, webpack, Node.js, etc.)
* Solid skills in developing native code (C/C++, Rust) and experience with DevOps tools (Git, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI)
* Ideally, initial experience with CODECs
* Interest in audio technologies and a willingness to dive into new topics
* Excellent communication skills (business fluent) in both spoken and written German and English

The position is initially limited to two years, with the possibility of extension. The standard weekly working time is 39 hours. The role can also be filled part-time, ideally close to full-time.
