# PhD Student in Structural Biology
## The Position:
**We are looking for a PhD student in Biberach, from December 2025, who will work within the department of Structural Research!**
The position is part of the Horizon Europe: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network “WATER”, which is devoted to the investigation of water transport and hydration dynamics to address unmet medical needs in all most deadly diseases. The position is funded under Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions. The PhD student will also have of two secondments of 3 to 6 months at the University of Kiel and the University of Leiden (NL).
**Compliance with mobility rules:** candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for **more than 12 months within the three years prior to the recruitment date** (short stays such as holidays or compulsory national service are excluded).
## Tasks and Responsibilities:
* Determination of the 3D structure of STING by x-ray crystallography or cryo electron microscopy.
* Construct design by gene engineering, protein expression in insect cells, membrane preparation, development of purification protocols, crystallization by LCPs, cryoEM grid preparation and data collection, and structure solution.
* Functional studies using biophysical methods to study channel function and ligand binding.
## Your Profile:
* Students holding or very close to completing their Master degree in Chemistry, Biophysics, Biochemistry or closely related subjects
* Knowledge and experience with membrane proteins, biophysical methods, protein analytics, structural biology methods, standard computational chemistry software packages and molecular biology techniques desireable
* Presentation skills and ability to work within a team
* Excellent communication skills in English
