## Job Description
The intermittency of renewable energy sources leads to flexible operation of subsequent processes such as electrolysis and methanol synthesis in power-to-methanol plants. For minimum levelized costs of methanol (LCOM) an optimization of the unit operations is necessary. Therefore, the following work packages should be addressed in your assignment.
* During your thesis you will conduct an extensive literature research including the derivation of component prices.
* You will validate the operation strategy.
* Furthermore, you will select and implement a suitable optimization method for an existing process simulation.
* Finally, your area of responsibility includes the techno-economic optimization of the process chain with respect to LCOM for different use-cases including the potential of heat integration and the identification of key parameters and their sensitivities.
## Qualifications
* **Education:** Master studies in the field of Chemical and Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering or comparable with good grades
* **Experience and Knowledge:** in numerical optimization methods and programming (Python); basic understanding of water electrolysis
* **Personality and Working Practice:** you are well organized, able to communicate effectively with team members and work independently
* **Languages:** fluent in English, German is a plus
