PhD thesis in synthetic biology for the development of living therapeutic materials at INM - Leibniz-Institut für Neue Materialien gGmbH | softgarden
The INM **Research Department Materials Synthetic Biology** is looking for a ***Doctoral Researcher (F/M/D)*** with experience in *biology, protein biochemistry, and/or microbiology*. The project will focus on the development of safety-by-design strategies for applying living therapeutic materias. The PhD thesis will be embedded in the Leibniz Science Campus on Living Therapeutic Materials, an interdisciplinary consortium aiming at the development of living drug delivery devices. Within this consortium, synthetic biologists, materials scientists, microbiologists, and clinicians are working together in interdisciplinary projects.
The position is available immediately, a later starting point is also possible.
**YOUR TASKS**
* **Perform molecular biology techniques**, specifically molecular cloning techniques (e.g., Gibson assembly, restriction enzyme cloning).
* **Bacterial production of engineered proteins** in E. coli or other microorganisms.
* **Protein purification and characterization** via IMAC, SEC, SDS-PAGE, WB, etc.
* **Analysis of bacterial longevity and viability** using multiple detection techniques (FACS, microscope, spectrophotometer).
* **Collaboration on the analysis of created bacteria** in Zebrafish models.
* **Analyse** data, contribute to scientific **publications**, and **present** research findings.
**YOUR PROFILE**
* **Master's degree** in biochemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field.
* Strong experience with **molecular cloning techniques**.
* Proven experience with **prokaryotic protein production, purification, and characterization**.
* Familiarity with **microbial culture** and bioprocesses.
* Ability to work effectively as a member of an **international, multi-disciplinary team**.
**WE OFFER**
* An exciting opportunity to participate in the development of a unique **Living Therapeutic Material (LTM).**
* A collaborative environment with researchers experienced in protein-based hydrogel formation, protein engineering, and the development of engineered living materials.
* Opportunities for **professional development** and training to support high-quality research and further enhance your profile.
