Our faculty has published in the best journals and presses in the world. As a result, the department was among a handful of universities outside English-speaking countries in the 100 target departments of the Philpapers Survey both in 2009 and 2020. The department uniquely combines analytic and historical approaches to philosophy. This feature of our program allows for a fruitful dialogue between contemporary philosophy and its history. A weekly colloquium series gives students the opportunity to meet with guest lecturers of international stature in an informal setting. In addition, the department regularly hosts and participates in a number of international research projects and networks, which bring intellectually exciting events to the department and provide further opportunities for our students to establish connections. **About Knowledge in Crisis** Knowledge in Crisis (KiC) is an intellectual community of more than 50 philosophers throughout Austria. We are comprised of Central European University (lead partner), and the universities of Graz, Salzburg and Vienna. KiC conducts basic research on the current crisis of knowledge. Claims to knowledge are being threatened by rapid and spectacular developments in technology, and by attacks on the very ideas of knowledge and truth themselves. Our aim is to advance our understanding of this crisis. As such, we explore fundamental philosophical questions about the nature of knowledge and investigate various challenges to scientific and other knowledge. In this pursuit, KiC brings together philosophers working on metaphysics, ethics, political and social philosophy, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and epistemology. In addition to our research, we work with local organisations to bridge the gap between academia and the general public. As a publicly-funded research project, we are passionate about engaging people in the work that we do in a genuine and accessible way. Knowledge in Crisis is supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) under the Clusters of Excellence programme. CEU is strongly committed to the promotion of gender equality and equal opportunities within our institution. Previous training, work experience and/or engagement with matters of equality, diversity and inclusion at the organizational level will be an asset. Central European University does not discriminate on the basis of—including, but not limited to—race, color, national and ethnic origin, religion, gender and sexual orientation in administering its educational policies, admissions policies, employment, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
