# (Associate) Principal Scientist Bioinformatics Data Engineer (m/f/d) ## The position Computational Innovation is a global organization across multiple sites at Boehringer Ingelheim: Vienna (Austria), Biberach (Germany), and Ridgefield (USA). We are currently hiring a bioinformatics data engineer in Vienna, Austria for our Data Excellence team. The main goal of Data Excellence is to design, implement and maintain the required infrastructure and services for a FAIR data landscape and to create ready-to-use data assets in an end-to-end fashion. The bioinformatics data engineer covers the entire data life cycle from the design of the underlying infrastructure to the final data product that can be readily consumed by data scientists and AI/machine learning (ML) frameworks. The role drives the processing and integration of large and complex data sets that build the foundation for unlocking the full potential of these assets. Large-scale omics (bulk/single cell NGS, proteomics) studies for preclinical drug discovery will represent the main data domain, complemented by functional, imaging, and rich phenotypic data. In addition, spatial *omics data types are of particular interest. The role requires close interaction with colleagues in the computational biology teams that leverage these data assets for data-driven drug development. ## Tasks & responsibilities * Developing the underlying data models and infrastructure that enable the processing and integration of large and complex data sets in close alignment with other team members * End-to-end processing and integration of internal/external data sets while complying with FAIR principles * Contributing to efforts in building an agentic AI framework * Taking ownership of data assets through all stages of the data life cycle ## Requirements * Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, molecular biology, computer science or a related field with >2 years of relevant experience * Proficiency with large-scale omics modalities (bulk/single cell NGS, proteomics) and methods to analyze these modalities * Experience with high-dimensional biomedical data sets and enforcing FAIR data standards * Strong hands-on skills in a high-level programming language such as R or Python, different compute environments (HPC, cloud computing, containerization), and database systems * Prior experience working with oncology data sets is a plus ## Your Benefits * Flexible working time models: home office and flexible working hours, depending on department and position – many things are possible with us * Additional days off (“bridge-days”): more free time through additional days off to bridge single working days between bank holidays and the weekend – without having to use vacation days * Canteen & Cafeteria: whether it's coffee and croissant for breakfast, various lunch menus or snacks in between – our subsidized staff restaurant & cafeteria has something for every taste including vegetarian and vegan options * Learning & development: diverse training and development opportunities for your personal and professional growth. Because: you never stop learning * Health promotion: health is important to us – that's why we offer different programs to promote physical and mental health * Public transport ticket: we encourage our employees to use public transport on their daily way to work. Costs for public transport? We cover them! The minimum gross annual salary for this position is € 64.023,54 per year (full-time) according to the classification in the collective bargaining agreement for the chemical industry. Depending on professional experience and qualifications, we offer an overpayment.
