Data Scientist(m/w/x)
Designing AI-driven prescriptive maintenance platforms for operational data. Applied machine learning and Python proficiency required. 30 days paid leave, family allowance.
Requirements
- Academic background in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related quantitative field
- Experience in applied machine learning or data-driven projects
- Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis and machine learning
- Understanding of machine learning techniques for time series analysis, anomaly detection, and predictive modelling
- Knowledge of data pre-processing, feature engineering, and EDA
- Familiarity with distributed data processing tools (e.g. Apache Spark)
- Good knowledge of experiment tracking and ML lifecycle management tools
- Understanding of REST APIs and model serving concepts
- Familiarity with containerisation technologies (e.g. Podman)
- Basic concepts of orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes)
- Ability to write structured technical documentation
- Ability to maintain reproducible code
- Ability to structure complex, ambiguous problems
- Spoken and written English
- Commitment to learn French
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience
- PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before

- Collect and formalize operational use cases and user stories
- Translate use cases into functional and technical specifications
- Define system requirements for an AI-driven platform
- Draft solution architecture for prescriptive maintenance
- Design scalable data pipelines for operational data
- Process time series, logs, and equipment metadata
- Pre-process data for machine learning models
- Perform feature engineering for datasets
- Conduct exploratory data analysis
- Design machine learning experiments
- Execute experiments for anomaly detection
- Implement failure prediction models
- Develop prescriptive recommendation models
- Track machine learning experiments
- Validate machine learning models
- Ensure model reproducibility
- Package models for production deployment
- Deploy models through APIs
- Deploy models using containerized services
- Support Kubernetes orchestration
- Contribute to system integration
- Perform testing of deployed models
- Monitor performance of deployed models
- Iteratively improve deployed models
