Machine Learning Engineer(m/w/x)
Deploying ML/DL models on CAFEIN platform for physics research. Kubernetes and microservices deployment experience required. 30 days paid leave, CERN Pension Fund membership.
Requirements
- Experience implementing ML/DL models in Python
- Experience with anomaly detection, segmentation, or GNNs
- Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, or RAG systems
- Experience with federated learning tools or algorithms
- Experience deploying services using Kubernetes and microservices
- Experience with distributed data processing or backend data flows
- Experience in particle accelerators or healthcare applications (advantageous)
- Strong Python skills and ML/DL framework proficiency
- Knowledge of anomaly detection, image segmentation, and GNN concepts
- Understanding of Generative AI, agentic AI, LLMs, and RAG
- Understanding of federated learning and privacy-preserving ML
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, and CI/CD
- Familiarity with distributed data processing and data pipelines (e.g., Spark)
- Basic understanding of applied ML domains (medical, industrial, anomaly detection)
- Spoken and written English, commitment to learn French
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Data science, IT, or related field
- Bachelor's or Master's degree as highest educational qualification
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
- University degree required
- PhD not eligible
Tasks
- Support and run machine learning applications on the CAFEIN platform
- Keep ML systems running smoothly, reliably, and at scale
- Learn and apply MLOps and DevOps practices
- Turn trained models into production services
- Manage data and training pipelines
- Integrate federated learning tools across distributed systems
- Implement machine learning algorithms in Python using TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
- Develop and deploy federated learning software
- Support the CAFEIN microservices platform using Kubernetes
- Manage data flows between databases and backend systems using Spark
- Perform data analysis and EDA to identify insights and new use cases
