Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Proven experience operating medium to large-scale computing infrastructures
- Experience installing and managing high-performance server platforms
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or similar) advantageous
- Installation, operation, and maintenance of computing systems
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems
- Operation and maintenance of storage systems
- Operation and maintenance of networks
- Structured and organised approach to work
- Expressing opinions, ideas, and suggestions logically
- Understanding when teamwork is required
- Adapting quickly to shifting priorities
- Keeping up-to-date with developments in own field
- Spoken and written English
- Commitment to learn French
- Valid driving licence
Tasks
- Manage data centre infrastructure, including servers, racks, networking, power, and cooling
- Manage desktop computers and wall screens in control rooms and technical buildings
- Manage networked data-storage systems and ensure effective backups
- Perform system administration for Linux computers connected to the accelerator control system
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve operational problems with end-users
- Plan and coordinate annual installation work and equipment replacement
- Collaborate with IT Department engineers on general CERN IT infrastructure
- Participate in defining hardware specifications for servers and desktop computers
