Requirements

  • Background in computational, accelerator, plasma physics, or related field
  • Experience with numerical simulations or particle-on-cell/beam-dynamics codes
  • Familiarity with plasma or accelerator modelling (Advantageous)
  • Exposure to high-performance computing environments (Beneficial)
  • Experience in large-scale scientific computing projects (Beneficial)
  • Strong programming and scripting skills
  • Understanding of numerical methods for physics simulations
  • Interest in algorithmic improvements and code development
  • Ability to work independently and engage community
  • Strong cross-disciplinary communication skills
  • Spoken and written English or French
  • National of CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Master's with 2-6 years experience or PhD with max 3 years
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract

Tasks

  • Develop and advance plasma wakefield simulations
  • Model long and self-modulated proton drive bunches
  • Optimize electron, proton, and plasma parameters
  • Evaluate accelerated electron beam quality and properties
  • Conduct full start-to-end simulations of experimental scenarios
  • Investigate electron acceleration in scalable plasma sources
  • Coordinate simulation activities and support junior collaborators
  • Align simulation tools and share best practices
  • Collaborate with experimental teams on design decisions
  • Ensure numerical studies reflect real operational conditions
