Senior Climate Scientist(m/w/x)

Description

You will drive critical climate research by modeling emissions scenarios to inform global policy. Your work will shape flagship projects and international negotiations to help achieve the Paris Agreement goals.

Requirements

• •Solid understanding of climate physics modeling
• •Interest in policy analysis collaboration
• •PhD in climate science or related
• •Knowledge of reduced-complexity climate models
• •Expertise in greenhouse-gas cycles (advantageous)
• •Knowledge of radiative forcing assessments (advantageous)
• •Experience in detection and attribution studies (advantageous)
• •Minimum 6 years relevant work experience
• •Experience in project and team management
• •Strong programming skills in Python or MatLab
• •Experience with git and unit testing
• •Interest in climate-change mitigation impact
• •Excellent English writing and verbal skills
• •Teamwork skills and interpersonal ability

Tasks

• •Evaluate emissions scenarios using climate-model emulators
• •Produce probabilistic assessments of global climate outcomes
• •Develop analytical pipelines for physical climate indicators
• •Maintain the Climate Action Tracker aggregation system
• •Create scientific tools to assess mitigation options
• •Calibrate reduced-complexity climate models with historical data
• •Monitor scientific literature and IPCC developments
• •Establish global and national decarbonization benchmarks
• •Expand partnerships with climate modeling groups
• •Coordinate with internal and external project stakeholders
• •Ensure scientific integrity across all work
• •Contribute to and lead scientific articles
• •Represent the organization at international conferences
• •Lead the acquisition of new research projects
