Precision Opto-Mechanical Systems Engineer - Process & Automation(m/w/x)
Designing automated assembly concepts for precision opto-mechanical systems, applying DfM/DfA and developing alignment tools. 5+ years hands-on experience with precision opto-mechanical systems and exceptional CAD knowledge required. Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optics/Optical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field
- 5+ years hands-on experience with precision opto-mechanical systems (assembly, alignment, integration)
- Exceptional CAD knowledge for system design (Creo preferred)
- Strong background in opto-mechanical design, process development, and industrialization
- Practical experience with manual, semi-automated, or automated assembly systems (ideally precision alignment systems)
- Solid understanding of manufacturing tolerances, GD&T, motion control, robotics, kinematics
- Experience taking products from prototype to series production
- Fluent English (spoken and written)
- Experience with optical fiber assemblies, fiber arrays, or co-packaged optics
- Experience with or specifying automation equipment for precision assembly
- Knowledge of simulation/analysis tools (Ansys, Zemax) and/or scripting (Python, C++)
- Familiarity with structured industrialization methodologies (FMEA, DoE)
- Experience in high-precision, low-tolerance manufacturing environments
Tasks
- Design precision opto-mechanical systems.
- Apply DfM and DfA principles early.
- Translate optical/mechanical requirements to scalable architectures.
- Develop tolerancing concepts for automated assembly.
- Design fixtures, tools, and alignment concepts.
- Design reference schemes.
- Enable repeatable manual, semi-automated, and automated assembly.
- Define opto-mechanical interfaces for high yield.
- Define system architectures for mass production.
- Develop and transfer assembly and alignment concepts.
- Bridge manual and semi-automated processes to automation.
- Identify automation requirements early in development.
- Shape manufacturing concepts for automation readiness.
- Shape process flows for automation readiness.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Align product and process requirements.
- Align specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Support integration of motion systems and alignment strategies.
- Support integration of metrology and control concepts.
