Postdoctoral Physicist for EMC3-Eirene simulations of stellarator boundary physics(m/w/x)

You will drive the design of a next-generation stellarator by using EMC3-Eirene simulations to optimize divertor performance and deepen the understanding of plasma physics at the plasma edge.

Requirements

  • Background in plasma edge physics
  • Background in modelling or optimization
  • Experience with data analysis
  • Concise presentation of scientific results
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience with EMC3 or SOLPS modelling
  • Experience with stellarator boundary physics

Tasks

  • Familiarize yourself with stellarator plasma edge magnetic geometry
  • Investigate island internal fieldline pitch and magnetic shear
  • Analyze island size across the island resonance
  • Evaluate divertor performance based on magnetic variables
  • Conduct EMC3-Eirene simulations to optimize target shape
  • Determine optimal target locations through simulation
  • Research relevant plasma physics for divertor optimization
  • Collaborate intensively with experts in Garching and Greifswald
  • Conduct frequent site visits to coordinate research efforts
