Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 10 years military experience or 15 years military experience
- Expertise with Joint Planning Process and Joint Family of Plans
- Experience with JOPES data
- Current Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
- 15 years staff experience and 3 years Operations Planner experience
- 3 years experience supporting AFRICOM AOR operations
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
- Willingness to travel outside Continental US
Tasks
- Provide expert advice on theater-level planning
- Coordinate component staff efforts for strategic objectives
- Analyze, plan, and execute major joint operations projects
- Conduct mission analysis and develop operational options
- Write papers and provide recommendations for complex missions
- Plan and present strategic options to AFRICOM leaders
- Review projects for quality, consistency, and compliance
- Apply knowledge of joint force planning processes
- Utilize Joint Operations Planning and Execution System data
- Deliver oral presentations to key decision-makers
- Provide written communications to key decision-makers
- Manage priorities based on Functional Branch Chief guidelines
- Initiate actions following Functional Branch Chief guidelines
- Improve administrative effectiveness of future operations
- Maintain relationships with the Joint Staff and Command Group
- Liaise with USG Interagency and Coalition planners
- Participate in joint and combined conferences
- Contribute to joint and combined working groups
- Build plans using the Joint Planning Process
- Refine courses of action with service component commands
- Serve as Action Officer for high-priority plans
- Join operational planning teams for campaign objectives
- Brief the Commander and Command Group
- Provide written products to the Command Group
