Support Officer (Fire & Rescue Service)(m/w/x)
Supporting alarm reception and testing detection systems at CERN during LS3. Practical understanding of rescue techniques and emergency response environments required. 6 weeks paid leave, plus family and child allowances.
Requirements
- Background or strong knowledge of emergency response environments
- Experience with firefighting or incident commander support (asset)
- Practical understanding of rescue techniques/firefighting operations
- Knowledge of incident command principles/emergency structures
- Ability to operate in safety-critical/time-sensitive environments
- Effective interaction across organizational levels/stakeholders
- Ability to propose pragmatic/well-reasoned solutions
- High precision and reliability in daily work
- Ability to document activities/decisions clearly/structured
- Spoken/written English or French, commitment to learn other
- CERN Member or Associate Member State nationality
- Maximum two years professional experience since graduation in Emergency Management/Rescue (or related field)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree
- No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract
- University degree required
- No PhD degree
- Valid driving licence
Tasks
- Support staff with safety, preparedness, and planning.
- Support alarm reception activities during LS3.
- Conduct acceptance tests for detection systems during LS3.
- Perform functional checks of detection systems during LS3.
- Assist with preparatory work for LS3 activities.
- Conduct site inspections for LS3 activities.
- Prepare for worksite changes.
- Follow up on incidents.
- Draft and update evacuation plans.
- Verify information in evacuation plans.
- Support safety officers during evacuation exercises.
- Support emergency response preparation for accelerators.
- Collaborate with third-party emergency responders.
- Support FCC safety work for infrastructure.
- Contribute to emergency response concepts for FCC.
- Integrate robotics into emergency response concepts.
- Conduct proof-of-concept activities with specialists and partners.
- Contribute to risk assessments.
- Support HSE follow-up activities.
- Support budget tracking.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation.
- Ensure follow-up with CFRS and FCC stakeholders.
