Requirements
- Minimum 4 years experience in Oil, Metals, or other commodities contracts
- Qualified lawyer and/or maritime law/international trade law graduate, or robust oil trading contract drafting experience
- Strong command of key legal principles and contractual risk identification
- Strong knowledge of International Commercial Terms (Incoterms)
- Robust command of multi-modal commercial structures
- Excellent English communication skills for explaining complex legal concepts
- Additional experience in structured deals, long-term arrangements, or multi-modal supply chain documentation
- Strong commercial mindset
- Adaptability to new digital tools and platforms
- Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail
- Proactive problem-solving approach
- Strong emotional intelligence and consensus building
- Strong organisational skills
Tasks
- Draft and review commodities trading contracts
- Negotiate sales and purchase agreements
- Review NDAs and storage agreements
- Lead negotiation of GT&Cs and master agreements
- Negotiate bespoke contractual frameworks
- Ensure contract consistency with trading system
- Minimize financial loss risk
- Issue financial and documentary instruments correctly
- Ensure documentation reflects commercial intent
- Adhere to internal controls and regulatory standards
- Provide expert guidance on contractual risks
- Flag potential issues and propose remedies
- Escalate issues when necessary
- Support commercial teams during negotiations
- Contribute to contract template improvements
- Enhance contract management systems
- Coordinate with traders and logistics operators
- Collaborate with trade finance officers
- Work with laytime and demurrage claims personnel
