Requirements

  • Experience in radiation physics and radiation protection
  • Proven experience with Monte Carlo simulation codes for radiation transport, preferably with FLUKA
  • Experience in programming, ideally with Python
  • Data analysis/visualisation skills, ideally with Python
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Spoken and written English, commitment to learn French
  • National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Professional background in Physics or Energy/Nuclear Engineering, with Master's degree and 2 to 6 years of experience, or PhD with no more than 3 years of experience
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract
  • Work in Radiation Areas
  • Interventions in underground installations
  • A valid driving licence

Work Experience

Tasks

  • Perform complex radiation protection studies using the FLUKA Monte Carlo particle transport code
  • Develop and update input files and models with the Line Builder tool
  • Estimate residual radiation levels in complex exposure situations using the SESAME tool
  • Compute activation of beam line components using ActiWiz/FCC tools, focusing on LHC collimation insertion regions
  • Lead radiation protection studies for the SND and FASER experiments upgrade
  • Benchmark Monte Carlo simulation results by developing data analysis scripts
  • Support the LHC operational radiation protection team with simulation data
  • Participate in on-site LS3 preparatory visits and worksites
  • Regularly report findings to your supervisor
  • Produce reports and technical notes, and present work in project meetings
  • Present scientific results at conferences and in publications
