Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer(m/w/x)
Fabricating complex components for particle accelerators with stainless steels, aluminum, and copper alloys. Proficiency in reading 2D drawings and 3D CAD models required. 30 days paid leave, CERN health insurance, and pension fund membership.
Requirements
- Proficiency in reading 2D drawings and 3D CAD models (ISO GD&T)
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods and work preparation
- Familiarity with precision assembly of mechanical structures and equipment
- Experience with Stainless Steels, Aluminum, and Copper Alloys
- Experience writing technical specifications and fabrication reports
- Knowledge of Geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (ISO GPS)
- Knowledge of CNC machining techniques
- Knowledge of pressure vessels, cryogenic devices, vacuum chambers & UHV components, mechanical structures (asset)
- Knowledge of joining techniques (welding, brazing, soldering) (asset)
- Spoken and written English
- Commitment to learn French
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Professional background in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Master's degree with 2-6 years post-graduation experience OR PhD with <= 3 years post-graduation experience
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
- Valid driving licence
Tasks
- Fabricate complex components using advanced technologies
- Collaborate with project stakeholders on design-for-manufacturing
- Review and revise 2D drawings for fabrication
- Contribute to make-or-buy strategy decisions
- Prepare technical specifications for tender invitations
- Prepare fabrication schedules with stakeholders
- Follow up on internal manufacturing activities
- Lead preparatory fabrication activities
- Define and procure suitable raw materials
- Prepare fabrication sequences including QA/QC
- Manage subcontracted production by external companies
