Director, Development and Outreach(m/w/x)

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in international relations, social sciences, or related studies
• Desirable advanced degree in philanthropy, business, finance, communications/marketing, or law
• Minimum ten years fundraising experience with high-level donors
• Minimum five years management experience
• Success in creating/managing major/leadership gift programs
• Extensive experience building/maintaining high-level donor relationships
• Experience personally soliciting six-figure gifts
• Experience managing small teams
• Preferred experience overseeing event fundraising strategy
• Excellent oral/written communication skills in German/English
• Strong presentation abilities in German/English
• Asset: Fluency in Italian
• Proven experience in budgeting, revenue tracking, projections
• Strong commitment to human rights/international issues
• Ability to represent/advocate for organization's mission/programs
• Highly desirable strong technological skills
• Highly desirable familiarity with Salesforce or relational databases
• Outstanding interpersonal skills for effective collaboration
• Entrepreneurial mindset, self-motivation, independence
• Ability to work individually and in a team
• Ability to work within a global organization
• Willingness to travel locally/internationally
• Fluency in German (ideally Swiss German) and English
• Desired but not required proficiency in Italian
• Valid Swiss work authorization

Tasks

• Develop strategic fundraising plans for Zurich
• Oversee fundraising budgets and income forecasts
• Secure philanthropic commitments from high-capacity donors
• Target individual, trust, and Foundation donors
• Identify and develop strategic fundraising and outreach initiatives
• Foster engagement with leadership-level prospects
• Cultivate prospects for leadership-level donations
• Organize cultivation events to enhance program visibility
• Collaborate with Zurich Committee leadership
• Implement initiatives to maximize fundraising results
• Assist staff with annual fundraising event execution
• Represent HRW's work to supporters
• Explore expanding HRW's donor base into Ticino
• Explore expanding HRW's donor base into Liechtenstein
• Partner with the Institutional Giving Team
• Research prospective and existing foundations
• Identify foundations for six-figure gifts
• Cultivate foundations for six-figure gifts
• Steward foundations for six-figure gifts
• Solicit foundations for six-figure gifts
• Partner with the Planned Giving team
• Educate donors about planned giving options
• Deliver sustainable growth aligned with financial targets
• Oversee income tracking and projections
• Oversee expenditure budgets and event expenses
• Oversee revenue and resource allocation
• Provide leadership to the Zurich Development team
• Motivate the Zurich Development team
• Mentor the Zurich Development team
