Requirements

  • Experience in the design of mechanical systems and components
  • Knowledge of mechanical properties of materials and manufacturing or fabrication technologies
  • Experience producing 2D technical drawings in compliance with ISO dimensioning and tolerancing standards
  • Ability to analyse and solve basic mechanical engineering problems using strength-of-materials principles
  • Experience preparing clear technical reports and engineering documentation
  • Initial experience with precise mechanical assembly of components
  • Proficiency with CAD software (preferably CATIA V5)
  • Familiarity with mechanical calculation and analysis tools
  • Understanding of mechanical fabrication and assembly techniques
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and international team
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French
  • Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical engineering or a related field
  • No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract
  • University degree required
  • PhD not eligible

Tasks

  • Design mechanical components for HTS cables and magnets
  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings using CATIA V5
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation
  • Verify manufacturing drawings for compliance with standards
  • Follow up on the manufacturing of mechanical parts
  • Liaise with workshops and suppliers
  • Participate in the assembly of HTS prototypes
  • Contribute to the mechanical integration of prototypes
