Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or aligned field
- Experience in business development, technical sales, product roles, or strategic account management, ideally with materials or data focus
- Proven track record engaging corporate accounts and progressing/closing commercial opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to engage scientific/technical decision-makers confidently
- Ability to understand and explain materials-science/technical concepts to varied audiences
- Strong presentation and narrative-building skills for complex scientific contexts
- Experience interfacing with corporate R&D, engineering, or innovation teams
- Proven ability to extract workflows, identify pain points, and translate into actionable commercial/product insights
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving capabilities
- Collaborative mindset suited to cross-functional, product-led environments
- Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are a plus
- Comfortable with travel (domestic & international) and flexible work across time zones
- Experience with data products, APIs, scientific databases, or digital R&D tools
- Exposure to materials informatics, lab digitisation, experimentation data workflows, or AI/ML in scientific/engineering contexts
Tasks
- Engage with scientists, engineers, and innovation teams
- Identify high-potential market opportunities and customer segments
- Conduct structured outreach and discovery with stakeholders
- Analyse market trends, customer pain points, and competitive developments
- Contribute to go-to-market activities and value propositions
- Support business case development with market evidence
- Build long-term, trust-based relationships with stakeholders
- Deliver tailored demos and discussions on product capabilities
- Prioritise expansion opportunities within existing accounts
- Represent Springer Nature at scientific and industry events
- Extract and synthesise customer feedback into insights
- Work with Product Management to articulate customer needs
- Map end-to-end technical workflows and highlight value
- Track industry signals and emerging opportunities
- Recommend adjustments to value communication and packaging
- Collaborate with Product, UX, Marketing, Data, and Sales teams
- Bring structured customer insights into product discussions
- Partner with Sales to refine outreach approaches
