Accelerator Physicist(m/w/x)
Beam dynamics studies for bent crystal fixed-target experiments at CERN. Accelerator Physics knowledge and Python/C++ programming skills required. 30 days paid leave, family allowances.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Accelerator Physics, linear and non-linear beam dynamics
- Experience with computing techniques for Accelerator Physics
- Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, C++, or equivalent scientific computing languages)
- Ability to work independently and engage with modelling community
- Interest in beam collimation and beam loss studies
- Interest in contribution to design studies for future LHC experiments
- Spoken and written English or French, with basics of the other language
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Professional background in Physics, Engineering (or related field) with Master's degree and 2-6 years experience or PhD with <= 3 years experience
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
Tasks
- Conduct advanced beam dynamics studies
- Analyse data from fixed-target setup using bent crystals
- Support future experiment studies
- Evaluate required machine modifications and timelines
- Collaborate with detector and instrumentation teams
- Investigate beam-matter interactions
- Study crystal channeling and background sources
- Analyse beam measurements after 2026 data-taking
- Assess future performance
- Combine modelling, simulation, and experimental data
- Contribute to Physics Beyond Colliders initiative
- Simulate beam loss and collimation process
- Analyse past and future LHC data with double-crystal setup
- Design future layouts for fixed-target setups
