- Research, engineer, and experiment with observability platform improvements
- Design and implement a comprehensive reliability strategy
- Lead the definition of reliability targets (SLOs)
- Guide the technical roadmap for reliability and observability
- Advocate for reliability and resiliency in product development
- Report key reliability KPIs and metrics to leadership
- Own and improve incident handling processes and automation
- Foster a blameless culture of learning from incidents
- Lead the definition and implementation of cloud disaster recovery
- Partner with Platform teams to build observability and reliability tooling
- Foster relationships with product teams to identify pain points
- Help design and implement monitoring solutions for system visibility
- Understand vendor budgeting and financial performance
- Develop business and technical relationships with vendors
- Lead larger projects with uncertainty and risk
- Help teams understand service reliability and improvement methods
- Provide technical leadership on reliability to all levels
- Raise awareness of financial/reputational loss from unreliability
- Mentor teams on operating resilient systems for 'you build it you run it'
- Drive organizational engineering initiatives from a reliability perspective
- Foster cross-departmental collaboration for a holistic reliability approach
- Keep PM and engineering manager informed of technical details
- Set new standards for quality, reliability, security, and performance
