Requirements
- PhD in computational chemistry, cheminformatics, computational drug discovery, or closely related field
- 8+ years of post-PhD industry experience in computational drug discovery or computational chemistry
- Deep practical expertise in structure-based and ligand-based design, ADMET modeling, and integration of experimental and biophysical data
- Exceptional understanding of modern ML approaches in drug discovery
- Strong scientific credibility demonstrated through prior roles at leading pharma or top-tier biotech
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring computational drug discovery teams
- Comfortable operating hands-on in a fast-moving, venture-backed, remote-first environment
- Clear motivation to enable customer drug discovery programs
- Background as an application scientist at a leading computational chemistry or drug discovery software provider
- Experience leading computational drug discovery teams at a TechBio or advanced biotech
- Prior exposure to federated, multi-partner data collaborations
- Experience shaping product direction for scientific software platforms
Tasks
- Own scientific direction across modalities, data, and workflows
- Define prioritized drug discovery problems, modalities, and data types
- Guide the evolution of applications and models for pharma teams
- Balance scientific ambition with practicality in customer environments
- Build and lead a high-impact computational drug discovery team
- Lead an established core team of experts in drug discovery
- Hire and integrate 1–2 additional team members as demand scales
- Set clear scientific direction and execution standards for programs
- Engage with computational drug discovery scientists at pharmaceutical companies
- Lead scientific discussions on program strategy and model applications
- Provide authoritative guidance based on real-world drug discovery experience
- Build trust through publications, talks, and community engagement
- Strengthen Apheris’ reputation in computational drug discovery
- Provide actionable scientific direction to application scientists and customer teams
- Ensure recommendations reflect practical discovery program operations
- Review and challenge analyses, models, and conclusions for scientific integrity
- Translate customer needs into product and model requirements
- Shape prioritization decisions based on customer impact and discovery realities
- Act as a scientific bridge between customers and internal development teams
