Senior Additive Manufacturing Engineer – Directed Energy Deposition (DED)(m/w/x)
Industrializing Directed Energy Deposition manufacturing for modular space orbital vehicle production. 3+ years hands-on industrial DED process experience, aerospace standards application required. Relocation assistance provided.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years manufacturing technology development and qualification experience
- 3+ years hands‑on industrial DED process experience
- Foundation in welding metallurgy and residual stress management
- Experience applying ESA, NASA, or comparable aerospace standards
- Communication, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
- Proficiency with data analysis tools
- Fluency in English
- Experience with robotic toolpath programming for DED systems
- Metallurgical expertise in copper and nickel‑base superalloys
- Familiarity with CAM systems and welding simulation tools
- Experience in manufacturing for propulsion systems
Tasks
- Lead the industrialization of DED manufacturing capabilities
- Define workflows for design, deposition, and inspection
- Establish process windows for high-performance alloys
- Guide design teams on DfAM for complex components
- Manage equipment selection, installation, and production readiness
- Lead part-qualification campaigns and documentation
- Manage budgets, schedules, and technology development risks
- Drive improvements in equipment utilization and throughput
- Ensure compliance with aerospace quality and safety standards
- Define process control plans and traceability workflows
- Partner with engineering and quality teams for flight-ready parts
- Support Make/Buy decisions for propulsion and systems teams
- Manage external suppliers and machine OEMs
- Maintain and calibrate DED machines and robotics systems
- Generate detailed technical reports for leadership and partners
