Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental sciences, geosciences, sustainable development, environmental policy, environmental economics or similar disciplines, provided that they relate to the integrated management of environmental resources (Resource Nexus).
  • At least one year of research/academic working experience related to environment/sustainability
  • Familiarity and demonstrated experience with the Resource Nexus or related concepts (e.g., integrated environmental resource management), e.g., through relevant publication(s), reference project(s), internship(s) or previous employment
  • Experience of working in international settings, e.g., in transnational cooperation or intergovernmental organisations
  • Experience in drafting complex reports, communications, and presentations
  • Basic experience in conducting trans-/interdisciplinary research (e.g., research-oriented master thesis, research, or consultancy-related employment), including interactions with relevant authorities and stakeholders
  • Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently in different contexts (e.g., academia, UN system)
  • Initiative, strong conceptual abilities and sound judgment
  • Flexibility with ability to establish priorities and work within prescribed timeframes
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Fluency in English
  • Knowledge of German or willingness to learn German is desired
  • Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset

Tasks

  • Research and extract data on Resource Nexus sustainability
  • Compile information for UNU-FLORES focus areas
  • Conduct literature reviews of scientific and UN documents
  • Synthesize key information for project proposals and reports
  • Support data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Perform spatiotemporal analysis using GIS
  • Conduct statistical analyses and sustainability assessments
  • Create visualizations such as diagrams and maps
  • Design and implement research surveys
  • Proofread and correct manuscripts
  • Prepare presentations for research events
  • Assist in internal research administration
  • Monitor and control research activities
  • Support strategic planning and reporting
  • Prepare briefings for research meetings
  • Compile information on research performance indicators
  • Pre-screen specific research calls
  • Report research to UNU Centre and other UN entities
  • Evaluate KPIs for research-related reporting
  • Document research activities by adjuncts and UNU Hubs
  • Collaborate on logistics for research events
  • Identify research products for KARE
  • Design educational materials based on Institute’s research
  • Implement administrative regulations and policies
  • Prepare documents for academic affiliations and contracts
  • Communicate with donors and research partners
  • Prepare research outputs for website and social media
  • Support communication with UN stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned
