Process Technology Lead - Laser Technologies(m/w/x)

Requirements

  • Completed degree (Master/Diploma/PhD) in Physics, Photonics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or comparable engineering discipline
  • 3-5 years practical experience in laser process development, ideally microstructuring or micromachining
  • Expert knowledge in laser physics
  • Deep understanding of laser-matter interaction (short-pulse, ultra-short-pulse lasers) and material influence
  • Demonstrable experience in statistical experimental design (DoE) and data evaluation (Minitab, JMP, Python/Matlab)
  • Knowledge of optics & beam guidance, confident handling of optical components, scanner systems (Galvo), beam shaping, focus positions
  • Experience with analytics & metrology, routine handling of surface measuring instruments (confocal microscopes, profilometers)
  • Structured way of working, analytical mindset, ability to translate complex physical relationships into stable industrial processes
  • Understanding of industrial requirements (cycle time, OEE, process capability, CPK)
  • Fluent English for scientific papers and international communication

Tasks

  • Conduct feasibility studies
  • Develop robust processes
  • Perform micro-range laser ablation, cutting, drilling
  • Determine process windows using scientific methods
  • Define stable process parameters (pulse energy, repetition rate, scanning speed)
  • Evaluate and select beam sources (e.g., picosecond, femtosecond lasers)
  • Select optical components for material requirements
  • Qualify laser sources
  • Analyze ablation results using high-resolution measuring technology
  • Optimize beam guidance and shaping
  • Adapt and adjust optical systems (scanners, objectives, beam expanders)
  • Achieve optimal focus diameters and beam profiles
  • Transfer developed processes to series production
  • Create necessary documentation and work instructions
  • Identify causes of process deviations (Root Cause Analysis)
  • Develop corrective measures for existing manufacturing processes
  • Monitor current trends in laser research
  • Examine new technologies for company applicability
  • Coordinate with design engineering (mechanical), software, and product management
  • Integrate processes into the overall system
