Principal R&D Engineer-Material & Joining(m/w/x)
Leading R&D for metallization and joining solutions in connectivity products. 10+ years product/process development with metallic materials, joining technologies required. Technical advisory role, driving product reliability and manufacturability.
Requirements
- Master's or MBA degree
- 10 years or more of experience
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 10+ years of experience in product or process development with strong background in metallic materials, metallization, and joining technologies
- Deep understanding of material properties, surface treatment, interfacial behavior, and failure analysis in metal and alloy systems
- Proven track record in developing or scaling joining and metallization technologies for electrical, electronic, or mechanical systems
- Experience with finite element simulation and process modeling tools such as Ansys, Workbench, or equivalent
- Know-how of materials characterization techniques such as SEM, FIB, EDS, mechanical testing
- Working knowledge of design-for-manufacturing and analytical tools such as DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and root cause analysis
- Understanding connector, contact, or cable assembly manufacturing processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects, collaborating across global teams and functions
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to influence and engage with both engineering and business leadership
- Fluent in English, capable of global collaboration across time zones and cultures
- High level of curiosity, hands-on problem-solving capability, and ability to balance tactical solutions with strategic technology direction
Tasks
- Partner with business units to resolve product design and manufacturing challenges
- Lead the development and validation of innovative metallization and joining solutions
- Translate customer feedback and manufacturing needs into designs and prototypes
- Conduct feasibility studies and proof-of-concept trials for new materials and processes
- Serve as a technical advisor to ensure design for manufacturability and reliability
- Perform analytical modeling and simulation to optimize product behavior and processes
- Collaborate with global operations and quality teams to scale new technologies
- Develop technical documentation, test plans, and specifications for materials and joining
- Contribute to the long-term technology roadmap in materials and joining science
- Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers across teams
- Promote a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the R&D community
