Principal Mission Assurance Engineer(m/w/x)
Developing orbital vehicle safety and reliability strategy for reusable spacecraft. 8+ years RAMS, mission assurance, or systems safety experience required. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship offered.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering or science
- 8+ years RAMS, mission assurance, or systems safety experience
- Team or project leadership experience
- Proficiency with reliability tools (FMECA, FTA, RBDs)
- Deep understanding of fault tolerance, redundancy management, FDIR
- Technical knowledge of spacecraft systems and operations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective project and task management skills
- Resilience under pressure and technical challenges
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Experience developing and validating FDIR logic, watchdog strategies
- Customer-facing experience with government customers (ESA/NASA)
- Willingness to mentor and contribute individually
- Passion for commercial space industry and human spaceflight
Tasks
- Lead Mission Assurance team
- Own end-to-end safety and reliability strategy
- Ensure vehicle safety architecture meets requirements
- Assess pre-flight risks and mitigations
- Perform and review FMECA, FTA, PRA, and RAM analyses
- Define and validate spacecraft fault management architecture
- Implement fault management strategies with avionics and software teams
- Support on-console operations and resolve in-flight anomalies
- Ensure lessons learned improve design and FDIR
- Lead and mentor safety, reliability, and fault management engineers
- Set team priorities and review work
- Champion mission assurance culture
- Instill first-principles thinking and data-driven decisions
- Report RAMS status and flight readiness to leadership
- Drive corrective actions from anomalies and test failures
