Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- PhD (advantage/strong asset)
- 15+ years heavy mechanical engineering experience in smelting, converting, pyrometallurgy, or high temperature rotating/tilting equipment
- Subject Matter Expert in tilting and rotating furnace design, delivery, and operation
- Demonstrated leadership as technical authority, senior specialist, or project lead
- Strong technical knowledge of rotating machinery, hydraulics, gear drives, burners/lances, and high temperature mechanical design
- Refractory knowledge (asset)
- Experience delivering full mechanical systems, supporting EPCM and equipment Design & Supply projects
- Ability to apply sound engineering judgment, challenge designs, and interpret complex mechanical analyses
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- English proficiency
Tasks
- Serve as global mechanical SME for rotating and tilting furnaces
- Support business development with technical expertise
- Provide technical expertise during client engagements
- Develop custom solutions for client applications
- Lead the global furnace engineering practice
- Establish and maintain design standards and governance
- Establish and maintain engineering guidelines
- Ensure quality assurance and best practices
- Maintain technical responsibility for system design, delivery, and commissioning
- Manage advanced mechanical engineering packages
- Oversee crucible design and refractory integration
- Manage hydraulic and sealing systems
- Integrate burners, lances, and offgas interfaces
- Drive research and innovation in furnace designs
- Lead product development for furnace designs
- Collaborate with the supply chain management team
- Maintain relationships with fabricators and vendors
- Ensure high-quality, cost-effective equipment design
- Oversee equipment fabrication and FAT/SAT activities
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and client specifications
- Provide technical assistance from home office or on-site
- Support equipment integration into overall plant design
- Oversee equipment erection and installation
- Support system commissioning and start-up
- Ensure operational readiness of supplied systems
- Collaborate with asset performance management teams
- Ensure ongoing performance improvements
- Provide operations support
- Manage mechanical integrity
- Implement process and reliability improvements
- Conduct root cause analysis investigations
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Mentor engineers
- Develop pyrometallurgical equipment expertise
