Requirements
- Master's degree in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field with at least 3 years of industry experience
- PhD with industry-relevant projects and engineering tasks, plus at least 1 year of post-PhD experience
- Integrated photonics design and large-scale PIC layout experience
- Coordinating multi-project tape-outs (DRC, documentation, release)
- Interfacing with foundries on process constraints
- Photonic simulation (FDTD, eigenmode expansion, circuit-level) proficiency
- PIC layout tooling proficiency
- Solid device physics understanding
- PDK development experience (plus)
- Strong Python skills for automation, verification, and design flow improvement
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ownership of delivery
- Driving risks to resolution
Tasks
- Own and drive end-to-end tape-outs
- Lead circuit coordination for tape-outs
- Manage layout integration for tape-outs
- Obtain DRC sign-off
- Prepare documentation for release
- Ensure release readiness across projects
- Act as primary interface to foundries
- Liaise with external fabrication partners
- Align designs to process constraints
- Resolve design rule conflicts
- Ensure correct fabrication execution
- Contribute to PDK development
- Validate PDKs
- Improve design workflow through automation
- Implement layout reuse
- Enhance review practices
- Mentor junior engineers on photonic layout
- Mentor junior engineers on verification
- Mentor junior engineers on tape-out best practices
- Spread a culture of rigor
- Promote ownership across the PIC team
- Feed design insights into technology roadmap
- Propose new photonic components
- Suggest optimization strategies
