Developing generative AI for weather radar data processing, including probabilistic QPE and merged radar-gauge products. MSc degree in science/informatics and Python programming skills required. International environment, flexible working hours.
Requirements
- MSc degree in natural science, geoscience, mathematics, informatics, or related fields
- Strong programming skills, preferably in Python
- Basic knowledge of deep learning, preferably in PyTorch
- Expertise with handling large datasets and machine learning workflows
- Basic knowledge of meteorology and remote sensing
- Intuition to link data and code to real-world observations and challenges
- Good command of written and spoken English
Tasks
- Develop a generative artificial neural network (ANN) for probabilistic radar QPE
- Extend the ANN to condition on rain gauge data for merged radar-gauge products
- Create an AI-based quality control method for radar data
- Apply and evaluate methods on European scale using OPERA radar network data
