Mechanics Project Leader & Engineer(m/w/x)
Leading mechanical design and prototyping of automotive electronic packaging with CAD. Expertise in plastic, sheet-metal, diecast, and tooling required. Flexible work schedule, global friendly working atmosphere.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Expertise in mechanical design and development of automotive electronic packaging
- Consolidated knowledge of plastic injection parts, sheet-metal, diecast and tooling
- Experience in waterproof electronic enclosure design
- Working knowledge of FEA and DFMEA/DRBFM techniques
- Knowledge of automotive OEM product design and development process
- Understanding of electronics packaging and ability to mitigate EMC, reliability, and thermal issues
- Excellent PRO-Engineer skills (Solid, Surface, Skelton modeling, sheet metal, Assembly design, Detailed drawing with GD&T)
- Basic knowledge of PLM/PDM systems (Teamcenter)
- Perform fundamental engineering hand calculations
- Very good communication skills
- Good English language skills
- Good office software skills, especially PowerPoint
- Ability to analyze and optimize mechanical designs for cost and sustainability
- Self-starter, ability to handle multiple tasks in fast-paced automotive environment
- Transition from theoretical to implementation thinking
- Very strong analytical skills and detail oriented
- Very good spoken and written English
- Good business knowledge
- Good negotiation skills
- Experience in requirements management (e.g., DOORS, ALMs, JIRA)
- Automotive industry or TS16949 compliant work experience preferred
- Willingness to travel within US & international on demand (around 10-25%)
Tasks
- Lead mechanical design and prototyping using CAD tools
- Conduct technical testing and validation
- Apply cost-effective and reliable mechanical concepts
- Perform failure analysis and problem-solving
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for customers
- Present technical findings to Harman management
- Design and develop mechanical components for projects
- Create 3D models, assemblies, and drawings
- Conduct requirements analysis and statistical tolerance studies
- Perform thermal and reliability studies
- Design for assembly and manufacturing with suppliers
- Select materials with sustainability in mind
- Review tooling design and moldflow for plastic parts
- Communicate with suppliers on technical topics
- Support POC, RFI, and RFQ processes
- Meet project timing, cost, and quality requirements
- Develop new mechanical technologies and design innovations
- Create and update mechanical process and design standards
- Support departmental initiatives and activities
- Provide technical guidance for project issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Follow and improve mechanical development processes
- Contribute to design standard and guideline creation
