Mechanical Engineer, Kinematic Systems and Mechanisms(m/w/x)
Designing and validating high-performance moving systems, deployment mechanisms, and landing gears for defence AI applications. Aerospace-grade materials and advanced GD&T knowledge required. VSOP options, relocation support, and temporary accommodation provided.
Requirements
- Design and delivery of complex kinematic mechanisms and moving systems for aerospace, drone or demanding applications
- Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD and PLM workflows using SolidWorks/PDM or Siemens NX/Teamcenter
- Application of advanced GD&T and statistical tolerance stack-up analysis
- Selection and integration of precision mechanical components (bearings, gearboxes, ball screws, fasteners)
- Working knowledge of aerospace-grade materials and manufacturing processes
- Setup of test rigs and execution of functional, environmental and lifetime test campaigns
- Use of physical test data to correlate and refine analytical models
- Decisive action with minimal guidance
- End-to-end ownership of outcomes
- Initiation of solutions without waiting for direction
- Encouraged to apply even if not meeting all qualifications
- Experience designing mechanisms for harsh or constrained environments
- Consideration of wear, lubrication, friction, stiffness and thermal compliance
- Familiarity with Hardware-in-the-Loop test environments
- Application of HIL to kinematic system validation in iterative drone/UAV development
Tasks
- Design and validate high-performance moving systems
- Develop deployment mechanisms and folding structures
- Create landing gears and robotic joints
- Perform kinematic synthesis and multi-body dynamics analysis
- Conduct torque and force profiling
- Execute FEA to meet structural and performance requirements
- Select and integrate electro-mechanical actuators
- Apply advanced GD&T to ASME Y14.5 or ISO 1101 standards
- Control backlash, alignment, and thermal expansion
- Build and test functional mechanism prototypes
- Evaluate kinematic behavior and structural integrity
- Design lifetime and fatigue test campaigns
- Produce robust 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings
- Generate kinematic analysis reports and design documentation
- Ensure full traceability from requirement to verified design
- Collaborate with systems, structures, and avionics teams
- Ensure kinematic assemblies interface correctly with airframe
- Maintain mechanism reliability across environmental conditions
