Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent experience in optical, electrical, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating laser diode test and characterization setups
  • Strong understanding of thermal management, reliability physics, degradation mechanisms, and lifetime testing methodologies
  • Comfortable working with large experimental datasets and applying statistical and modeling tools
  • Ability to work effectively across internal system teams and with external suppliers and collaborators
  • Consideration of component-level decisions affecting system-level performance, cost, scalability, and operational viability
  • Experience with diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL), high-average-power laser systems, or adjacent fields
  • Experience with thermal, optical, or reliability modeling tools to support predictive design and scaling

Tasks

  • Design and evaluate high-power laser diode emitters, bars, and stacks
  • Develop and execute electro-optical, thermal, and reliability test protocols
  • Design, commission, and operate automated test benches for laser diode devices
  • Lead accelerated life testing and analyze degradation mechanisms
  • Build predictive lifetime and reliability models for system design
  • Collaborate with industry partners and suppliers to enhance diode performance
  • Ensure effective integration of diode technologies into laser modules
  • Analyze experimental datasets and generate technical documentation
