Requirements

  • Solid background in electromagnetics or computational physics
  • Numerical simulations and scientific computing
  • Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development
  • Open-source software development experience
  • Asset: Knowledge of accelerator physics, wakefields, or beam coupling impedance
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic simulation tools (CST, HFSS, COMSOL, or similar)
  • Programming experience in Python
  • Familiarity with numerical methods and scientific computing
  • Problem-solving mindset and quick learning ability
  • Good communication, mentoring, and support skills
  • Spoken and written English or French, commitment to learn other language basics
  • Nationality of CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Professional background in Physics, Engineering (or related field); Master's degree with 2-6 years post-graduation experience OR PhD with max 3 years post-graduation experience
  • No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract

Tasks

  • Perform electromagnetic simulations for wakefield and impedance studies.
  • Analyze simulation coupling with beam dynamics.
  • Develop an optimized interface between Wakis and Xsuite.
  • Design, implement, and validate new Wakis features and methods.
  • Validate Wakis on realistic geometries using bench measurements.
  • Coordinate and prioritize Wakis development activities.
  • Benchmark Wakis against commercial solvers and analytical models.
  • Construct, validate, and maintain CERN impedance models.
  • Support and supervise junior students on Wakis tasks.
  • Review developer contributions.
  • Assist with code integration and testing.
  • Improve Wakis documentation, examples, and workflows.
  • Present progress and results in meetings and working groups.
