Vacuum Technician(m/w/x)
On-site interventions in the LHC tunnel, detecting helium leaks and activating NEG coatings. Basic UHV principles and NEG behavior knowledge required. 30 days paid leave, CERN health insurance, family allowances.
Requirements
- Basic understanding of UHV principles
- Awareness of outgassing phenomena in vacuum systems
- Familiarity with simple UHV environment creation/maintenance techniques
- Basic knowledge of NEG behavior and use
- Introductory know-how of RGA in UHV setups
- Basic knowledge of helium leak detection methods
- Able to operate basic UHV gauges and read data
- Able to assist with helium leak detection and note basic results
- Able to help prepare and update simple technical documentation
- Able to support on-site vacuum tasks
- Spoken and written English or French, learn basics of other language
- National of CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
- Work in Radiation Areas
- Interventions in underground installations
- Residence in the immediate vicinity of Organization's installations
- Valid driving licence
- Exposure to ionizing radiation and classified as category A
Tasks
- Conduct on-site interventions in the LHC tunnel
- Detect helium leaks
- Perform local heating operations
- Activate non-evaporable getter (NEG) coatings
- Measure ultra-high vacuum pressure
- Analyze residual gas composition with mass spectrometry
- Identify organic contaminants and air leaks
- Prepare and update technical documentation
- Track NEG performance of the LHC vacuum system
- Support quality assurance efforts
- Validate each process step
- Produce detailed intervention reports
