Survey Engineer(m/w/x)
Sub-millimetre accuracy alignment of accelerator components at CERN. High precision geodetic metrology experience required. 30 days paid leave, CERN health insurance.
Requirements
- Experience in high precision geodetic/industrial metrology
- Initial coordination, planning, reporting, QA, supervision experience
- Knowledge of high accuracy survey methods and tools
- Use of survey instruments: total stations, 3D laser scanning
- Knowledge of standard adjustment software and least square adjustment
- Data acquisition and processing software knowledge (Python, Matlab, Spatial Analyser)
- Organisation, planning, control, and supervision skills
- Spoken and written English or French, with commitment to learn other
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Master's degree with 2-6 years post-grad experience or PhD with <=3 years experience in Geomatics/Industrial Metrology
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
- Valid driving licence
Tasks
- Join the Geodetic Metrology group at CERN
- Participate in metrology and alignment of accelerator components
- Use advanced surveying tools and software
- Achieve sub-millimetre accuracy
- Collaborate on NA-CONS and TCC2 renovation projects
- Dismantle existing beamlines
- Install new beamlines in 2028/2029
- Attend coordination meetings
- Review project schedules
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
- Prepare theoretical beamline trajectories
- Check installation drawings
- Verify component geometrical data
- Conduct and supervise geometrical measurements
- Use 3D geodetic techniques
- Coordinate survey activities
- Perform network measurements
- Supervise installation tasks
- Execute alignment processes
- Process data using 3D least-squares adjustment
- Conduct advanced stochastic analysis
- Prepare technical documentation
- Present measurement results
- Define tracing strategy for new beamlines
- Implement tracing strategy for new services
- Contribute to R&D on alignment monitoring systems
- Develop in-house surveying software
- Test and maintain surveying applications
- Supervise external contractors
- Supervise students
- Manage team supervision responsibilities
