Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent relevant experience in Applied Physics, Engineering, or related field
  • Significant experience leading and coordinating large-scale scientific collaborations
  • Proven experience managing EU-funded Research and Innovation projects
  • Demonstrated experience in international scientific collaborations, managing complex research, coordinating institutes and industries
  • Experience collaborating across scientific communities in computing
  • Experience negotiating and collaborating with industry
  • Post-doctoral or equivalent certification in leading research in science or technology
  • Knowledge of Funding Programmes and key EC contact points
  • Project management, including EU-funded research and innovation procedures
  • Experience in Project Proposal writing for large-scale, multi-institute, multi-science projects
  • Strategic Management implementing CERN’s vision into multi-science initiatives
  • Operational Management including negotiation across multiple project partners
  • Promoting innovative thinking and idea circulation within team and across departments
  • Building comprehensive road maps to translate organisational vision to operational level
  • Effectively managing budget, optimising human and financial resources
  • Making timely decisions balancing systematic analysis with decisiveness
  • Leveraging support networks across the Organisation
  • Spoken and written English and French

Tasks

  • Lead CERN's participation in the ESCAPE Collaboration
  • Steer and shape ESCAPE activities for High Energy Physics
  • Represent CERN in the ESCAPE Collaboration board
  • Strengthen CERN's leadership in ESCAPE governance
  • Drive ESCAPE to converge on a common Open Science vision
  • Engage with other European science clusters
  • Foster alignment of infrastructure projects for research
  • Coordinate CERN's participation in the next EC funding round
  • Lead proposals for Scientific Clusters
