Mechanical Engineer - CMS Cooling Lines(m/w/x)
Mechanical design of CO2 cooling transfer lines at CERN, with ANSYS simulations and structural calculations. FEA software experience for thermal/structural simulations required. 30 days paid leave, 2 weeks annual closure.
Requirements
- Experience with FEA software for thermal/structural simulations (e.g. ANSYS)
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software (preferably CATIA)
- Familiarity with EN 13480 and international design/safety standards for pressure vessels/mechanical components (advantageous)
- Ability to analyze and interpret mechanical/thermo-mechanical simulation data
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Attitude to teamwork in multidisciplinary environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent documentation skills
- Spoken and written English
- Commitment to learn French
- National of CERN Member/Associate Member State
- Maximum two years professional experience since graduation
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
- University degree required
- PhD not eligible
Tasks
- Contribute to mechanical design of CO2 cooling transfer lines
- Perform mechanical and thermo-mechanical simulations using ANSYS
- Conduct structural and thermal calculations
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation
- Participate in iterative design development
- Meet performance and integration constraints
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and technicians
- Support fabrication-related decisions
- Contribute to quality assurance activities
