Lead Piping and Plant Layout Engineer(m/w/x)
Leading piping engineering and plant layout for process plants, validating design assumptions for operability and safety. 10+ years of cold-weather process plant experience required. Hybrid work, 25 vacation days, and equity package.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- At least 10 years experience in process plants, preferably cold weather
- Experience as piping and plant layout engineer
- Understanding of current standards and directives in mechanical, piping, civil engineering
- Hands-on involvement in at least one full-cycle project
- Project experience in chemical, petrochemical, or renewables industry
- Project experience covering FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, start-up
- Project experience preferably in cold-weather or remote/seasonally constrained environments
- Precision and adaptability

- Comfortable driving and owning decisions in office and field
- Comfortable with winter productivity and schedule risk
- Confidence in presenting to executive audiences and EPC contractors

Tasks
- Develop and lead Piping Engineering & Plant Layout Team
- Ensure project requirements are met globally
- Define and document owner requirements
- Communicate requirements to contractors
- Validate design assumptions for operability, safety, and regulations
- Define piping and plant layouts for local and regional execution
- Review and approve contractor submissions
- Enforce owner requirements
- Provide technical clarifications
- Ensure schedule, quality, safety, and operability
- Set expectations for execution methods and quality controls
- Develop innovative engineering solutions
- Identify cost-saving opportunities
- Focus on design-to-construct decisions
- Integrate with process, civil, electrical, mechanical, and O&M disciplines
- Manage cross-discipline interfaces
- Align scope assumptions with local permitting needs
- Maintain records of technical decisions and design bases
- Document vendor information and lessons learned
- Incorporate Alberta climate conditions into design
- Ensure freeze protection and winterization
- Implement insulation and heat tracing philosophy
- Manage drainage and low-point issues
- Plan for cold start and commissioning
- Consider temporary works and winter work sequencing
- Address interface constraints with cold-weather civil activities
