Lead Mechanical Engineer(m/w/x)

Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 10 years of experience in process plants, preferably in cold weather climates, as a mechanical static equipment engineer, with proven expertise in API and ASME equipment such as heat exchangers, columns, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and packaged auxiliary equipment
- Hands-on involvement in at least one full-cycle project in chemical, petrochemical, or renewables industry, covering FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and start-up, preferably in cold-weather or remote/seasonally constrained execution environments
- Precision, adaptability, and reliability
- Proactive and solution-oriented approach
- Comfortable driving and owning decisions under field constraints, including winter productivity and schedule risk
- Confident presentation to executive audiences and EPC contractors
- Translating technical content into clear, actionable information
- Fluent in English
- Ready to travel up to 60% of time, including extended site presence in Alberta, Canada during peak periods
Tasks
- Lead development of mechanical specifications and design philosophies
- Ensure owner requirements are clearly defined and communicated
- Validate design assumptions against operability, safety, and regulations
- Define pressure equipment compliance pathway for local and regional execution
- Review and approve contractor submissions
- Enforce owner requirements and provide technical clarifications
- Ensure adherence to schedule, quality, safety, and operability
- Set clear expectations for execution methods and field quality controls
- Develop innovative engineering solutions for cost savings
- Focus on design-to-construct decisions for local conditions
- Integrate with process, civil, electrical, and O&M disciplines
- Manage cross-discipline interfaces proactively
- Support alignment with local permitting and application needs
- Maintain thorough records of technical decisions and design bases
- Keep vendor information and lessons learned for future use
- Incorporate Alberta climate conditions into mechanical design
- Ensure freeze protection and winterization in design
- Manage insulation and heat tracing philosophy
- Address drainage and low-point management
- Plan for cold start and commissioning constraints
- Consider temporary works and winter work sequencing
- Coordinate with cold-weather civil activities
