Head of Embedded Systems Development(m/w/x)
Leading firmware and electronics teams for medical devices in ophthalmology and microsurgery. Technical and disciplinary leadership in regulated medical device development, with deep C/C++/Python knowledge, required. International collaboration with external development partners.
Requirements
- Degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or related field
- Several years of professional experience in cross-functional development of embedded systems, preferably in medical device development
- Experience in technical and disciplinary leadership and developing high-performing teams in a regulated environment and cybersecurity
- Experience in collaborating with and managing external development partners nationally and globally
- In-depth knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and Linux-based real-time operating systems, preferably Zephyr, as well as microcontrollers and bus systems (CAN, CAN-FD, TSN)
- Familiarity with modern product and software development methods and CI/CD tools, such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, and Jira
- Knowledge of platform development/product line engineering; practical experience is desirable
- Application-related project management skills and ability to use classic and agile approaches as appropriate
- Solution-oriented and analytical mindset
- Good communication skills and experience in stakeholder management
- Enjoyment of working with international and diverse teams
- Very good English skills, written and spoken, and good German skills
Tasks
- Lead a team of firmware and electronics developers
- Promote professional development through coaching and training
- Provide regular, constructive feedback to team members
- Plan, implement, and monitor embedded systems projects
- Ensure projects adhere to schedules and budgets
- Collaborate with hardware development and quality assurance teams
- Integrate external development partners successfully
- Develop modular platform solutions
- Integrate new technologies and trends in embedded systems
- Contribute to quality improvement and cost reduction
- Integrate open source principles into development processes
- Represent ZEISS in external committees and open source communities
- Implement best practices in product and software development
- Establish verification and validation strategies for quality assurance
- Ensure compliance with legal and normative requirements
- Adhere to relevant cybersecurity specifications in development
