Requirements

  • •Experience in electromagnetic or accelerator simulations
  • •Ability to work on simulations and experiments
  • •Experience in particle source design or operation
  • •Experience with Travel, TraceWin, Toutatis, IBSIMU, or Xsuite
  • •Knowledge of beam dynamics simulation
  • •Knowledge of electromagnetic simulation tools
  • •Basic programming skills in Python or C++
  • •Problem-solving mindset and learning ability
  • •Spoken and written English proficiency
  • •Commitment to learn French
  • •National of CERN Member or Associate State
  • •Background in Applied Physics, Engineering, or related
  • •Master's with 2-6 years or PhD with 0-3 years experience
  • •No previous CERN fellow or graduate contract

Tasks

  • •Join the beam dynamics simulations team
  • •Lead Linac4 source extraction studies
  • •Design and measure source extraction systems
  • •Implement existing machine models in Xsuite
  • •Benchmark Xsuite against TraceWin and Travel codes
  • •Learn linac beam dynamics codes
  • •Propose designs to reduce transverse beam emittance
  • •Increase beam current into RFQ acceptance
  • •Qualify designs through source test stand measurements
